TIPP! Study Day

Study Day on Women Art Dealers & the Market at NYU’s Grey Art Museum

On February 20 the Grey Art Museum at New York University is hosting a Graduate Student Study Day focused on women art dealers and the art market, inspired by the exhibition “Berthe Weill: Art Dealer of the Parisian Avant-Garde” that is presented in the Grey Art Museum from 10/01/2024-03/01/2025.

During the study day students will be in exchange with the Grey Art Museum staff, local curators, faculty and art market experts while discussing topics such as women dealers and their impact on the art market as well as behind-the-scenes discussions about the curatorial and financial considerations in putting together the exhibition about Berthe Weill.

This study day is designed for local graduate students from various programs, including FIT’s MA Program in Art Market Studies and NYU’s Visual Art Administration MA Program.

Students are highly encouraged to attend all sessions, however, if you are unable to do so, please only reserve tickets for sessions you know you will be attending. Due to limited capacity, if you are no longer able to attend a session, please contact us at greyartmuseum@nyu.edu

Agenda:

Morning Session (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM): A discussion featuring Lynn Gumpert, co-curator of the “Berthe Weill” exhibition and director of the Grey Art Museum, along with other staff members. They will explore the intellectual and practical aspects of organizing a traveling exhibition about an art dealer.

This will be followed by guided breakout sessions aligned with students’ research interests, providing an informal networking opportunity.

TIPP! Literatur

“A popular hashtag every March during Women’s History Month challenges people to name #5womenartists. But can you name five women art dealers? A new project aims to prove there are many to choose from, they just have not been mined from the margins of art history with the same vigor devoted to artists.”

TIPP! Online Seminar

Unter dem Titel „Women Art Dealers and Photography: Picturing Identities, Networks and Selling Strategies” nähert sich das Online-Seminar der TIAMSA (The International Art Market Studies Association) weiblichen Kunsthändlerinnen und ihrer Bedeutung für den Kanon der Kunstgeschichte anhand von fotografischem Material. Geleitet wird die Veranstaltung von Caterina Toschi und Véronique Chagnon-Burke, den Mitbegründerinnen des Projekts WADDA | Women Art Dealers Digital Archives.

TIPP! Talk | The WOMEN ART DEALERS DIGITAL ARCHIVES (WADDA) initiative | 15.06.2021
